THE festive mood was evident as people from all walks of life turned up at the Hari Raya open house hosted by Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman.
The guests were treated to a hearty traditional buffet of satay, lemang, grilled lamb, nasi arab, pak tongko, nasi ayam, chicken curry, laksa and many other dishes at Dewan Millenium, Kepala Batas.
Ahmad Zakiyuddin, who is Pinang Tunggal assemblyman, also gave out duit raya to the children.
Also enjoying the festive occasion were the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.
Joining them were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, Penang exco member Chong Eng, state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik and Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon.
Housewife Molly Tan, 64, and her daughter Saly Lim, 30, said they loved the traditional Malay food served, especially the delicious satay.
Tourist George Fernandez, 32, from Sydney, Australia, said he came to the open house with a Penang friend.
“I am here to see what an open house is all about as we don’t have something like this in Australia,’ he said.
“This is something unique as strangers can just walk in and have food of their choice.
“I like satay very much as it is delicious, especially when you dip it into gravy.”
