MORE than 500 people attended the Hari Raya open house hosted by Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, Pulau Betong assemblyman Mohd Tuah Ismail and Teluk Bahang assemblyman Zolkifly Md Lazim.
“This is the first open house I am hosting and I am glad to see so many people here to celebrate the festival together,” said Muhammad Bakhtiar when met at the open house at Dataran Masjid An Nur, Titi Teras in Balik Pulau on Saturday.
Teacher, K. Tamilselvi, 42, who came with her family, said it was a norm for them to celebrate the festive period with thelawmakers in the area,
“The people in Balik Pulau are like a close-knit family. We have a good bond with our MPs and assemblymen.
“I am so happy to be able to enjoy the festival here.”
Retired Penang Island City Council staff member Derrick Phang said the open house gave him an opportunity to meet his old friends in Balik Pulau.
“I have been living here for more 35 years and it’s nice to celebrate the festival in your kampung,” he said.
The guests were treated to an array of delicious dishes including pulut durian, satay, chicken rendang, fried chicken, apom balik, briyani, chendul and ais kacang.
The children at the open house were also given duit raya by Muhammad Bakhtiar and Mohd Tuah.
