SEREMBAN: Following a fire which destroyed the first floor of the Seremban market, better known as Pasar Besar Seremban, repair and upgrading works are expected to be fully completed by January.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman Teo Kok Seong said the overall repair and upgrading works involved an estimated cost of about RM12mil.
“Work on the premises that was damaged in a fire last year will take some time as beam structures on the first floor need to be replaced to ensure safety of the traders and the public.
“We also plan to instal lifts at suitable locations for the comfort of the public and build a total of 306 new stalls covering three sections, namely for food and clothes, wet and dry goods,” he said after a visit to the market here.
Meanwhile, Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) president Datuk Abd Halim Abd Latif who was also present said the council planned to turn Pasar Besar Seremban into a tourist attraction.
Currently, affected traders are temporarily conducting business as usual at the market's parking lot. — Bernama
