YMCA Ipoh is organising a fundraising dinner to help raise money for Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM).
YMCA National President Datuk Daniel Tay said the dinner, to be held at the YMCA Hall in Ipoh on July 12, will see tables sold at RM10,000, RM5,000 and RM1,000 per table.
“There will be about 25 tables available and each table can sit up to 10 people,” he told a press conference held at YMCA Ipoh last week.
“Bookings are open now and tickets for the dinner can be purchased at the front desk of YMCA Ipoh starting from today,” he said.
“Those who would like to contribute without attending the dinner can also send their donations to YMCA Ipoh,” he added.
Tay said they the organisation hopes to raise as much money as possible to help with the nation’s debt.
“We also hope that the fundraising dinner can act as a catalyst for other NGOs to follow suit,” he said.
He also said that halal food could be made available upon request.
“We have not decided on a particular caterer, but our internal caterer is ready to prepare the meals for the dinner,” he said.
YMCA honorary vice president Daniel Lim said, as a responsible NGO and concerned social entity, YMCA Ipoh is unable to sit idly while the nation is burdened by a great deal of debt.
“We would like to applaud the new government for scrapping the Goods and Services Tax, but in doing so, the government has lost an important source of revenue to handle the debt,” he said.
“Due to this, YMCA Ipoh has decided to send a message of hope to the nation and would like to play our part by organising this fundraising dinner,” he added.
