THE upcoming FMM-OCBC Heritage Walk 2018 has raised RM500,000 to benefit 22 welfare homes in Penang.
From the amount, RM100,000 will be donated to Penang Future Foundation, said Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang branch chairman Datuk Dr Ooi Eng Hock.
“We are proud to announce that we have raised more than RM400,000 to be donated to 21 homes in the state and RM100,000 to Penang Future Foundation.
“The response for the third series of Heritage Walk has been overwhelming with over 3,200 participants registered, exceeding our target of 3,000.
“We thank the participants for their kind support,” he said during a press conference at FMM's office in Seberang Jaya on Tuesday.
Dr Ooi said besides 10 Apple iPad Minis and five bicycles worth RM20,000 to be given away as lucky draw prizes, Hong Kong singer Gloria Tang Tsz-Kei, who is also known by her stage name G.E.M. will be performing during the event.
OCBC Bank Penang and Kedah regional manager Chea Hak Tee said the 5km walk along the Unesco World Heritage Site on July 1 will start from OCBC Premier Bank in Lebuh Pantai.
He also said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow would be flagging off the participants.
“This is part of our corporate social responsibility initiative focusing on enriching children and education, and fostering unity among people at the same time.
“Hopefully friends and family will come together for the walk to spend their time at the heritage enclave,” he said.
Among the landmarks that participants will see along the route are the Penang Peranakan Mansion, Mahamariamman Temple, Kew Leong Tong Temple, Khoo Kongsi, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and Eastern & Oriental Hotel.
