Early Hari Raya cheer for civil servants in Melaka

The Melaka state government will be banking in RM1,000 in duit raya into civil servants' accounts soon, says Chief Minister Adly Zahari.

MELAKA: There's good news for Melaka civil servants as they will be getting a special one-off payment of RM1,000 for Hari Raya this year.

Chief Minister Adly Zahari (pic) said more than 5,000 civil servants, regardless of grade, would receive the amount which would be credited into their bank accounts soon.

He said the payment will cost the state about RM5mil.

“Do not worry, the state government has the money to make the payment,” he told reporters at the Seri Negeri Complex in Ayer Keroh.

State secretary Datuk Wira Roslan Ibrahim was also present when Adly made the announcement.

On another matter, Adly said he would not move to the chief minister’s official residence, Seri Bendahara, but would instead occupy one of the government houses in Peringgit.

He said the state government has several options for the Seri Bendahara Complex.

“One option is to make it the state government’s official guest house.

“We can also try to turn it into one of the state’s tourism products,” he said.

Adly said the idea to turn Seri Bendahara as a tourist spot was driven by the overwhelming response from the public when the official residence was opened for viewing from May 15 to June 14 this year.

He said more than 10,000 visitors, including tourists from as far as China, visited the place during the period.

“Even if we charge only RM1 per entry, we can get a lot of money from the tourist visits,” he said jokingly, adding that the final decision will be made in due time.
