HAWKERS at the Bayan Baru market complex in Penang gave out free food to celebrate Pakatan Harapan’s win in GE14.

Hundreds of burgers along with nasi lemak, fried bee hoon, pumpkin dumplings and lam mee were given to patrons from noon yesterday.

Among the generous hawkers was Roy Ang, who prepared 50 burgers and hotdogs worth about RM100.

They were snapped up in seven minutes.

“Several hawkers initiated the free food event to celebrate the coalition’s win.

“We want to share our joy with the public,” he said.

Another hawker, who gave away 61 pumpkin dumplings, said many hawkers throughout the country gave out free food to celebrate the new government.

“This made me decide to call on the other hawkers to join in the initiative.

“I gave away 61 dumplings as this is the first time in 61 years that we have a new government,” she said.

Patrons also grabbed 200 packets of nasi lemak and 50 packets of fried bee hoon from the hawker centre.

Customers at a lam mee stall were pleasantly surprised when they received free bowls of noodle soup.
