ONE hundred motorcycles were destroyed in an arson in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, leaving many without a mode of transportation.
According to Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari, the police were alerted at around 3am this morning (May 16) to a fire at the Angsana low-cost flats in USJ 1.
“The fire destroyed about 100 motorcycles and (scorched) the ground floor of the flat.
“But within half an hour, the Fire and Rescue Department managed to put out the fire. No casualties reported,” he said.
The fire department also conducted a forensic investigation, while the police said they managed to detain suspects.
“We have taken in five males between the ages of 11 and 15 for questioning, and they are now under remand," said Azlin.
“The suspects were displeased with flat dwellers who often told them off for being noisy at the flat’s ground floor, leading them to start a fire in retaliation,” he explained.
The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for arson.
Meanwhile, following a discussion with Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) deputy president Mohd Zulkarnain Che Ali and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), the flat management said that the first thing to be done was to repair the piping and electrical system.
As both are down, flat dwellers may face water and power supply problems.
