Pakatan's clean sweep in Puchong sees third term for Gobind, Ean Yong

Gobind won a third term as MP of Puchong.

SWEPT UP in the Malaysian tsunami, the two state and one parliamentary seats in the Puchong constituency went to Pakatan Harapan as its candidates secured big wins.

Gobind Singh Deo, 45, of the DAP, and Seri Kembangan DAP assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah retained their seats for the third time.

Gobind polled 60,429 votes or 62.7% in securing his parlimentary seat, while Ean Yong secured 34,659 votes or 79.5%.

Ean Yong (pic below, middle) thanked the people for supporting him for the past 10 years and said the party would continue to do its best to serve the state and country.

“People were concerned about the future of Malaysia, and I think they did the right thing in this election,” he said after being officially announced the winner.

Later, he visited the Seri Kembangan morning market to thank people.

Meanwhile newcomer to the Puchong constituency, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud of Parti Amanah Negara, is now the assemblyman for Seri Serdang.

She was previously the MP of Kota Raja.

Siti Mariah said there were lots of stories about her being an outsider, and not a local candidate. This made for a difficult start, but she said she had the support of Amanah members, as well as Pakatan Harapan parties.

Siti Mariah won by a majority of 14,363 votes, securing 27,088 votes (51.3%) in her battle against Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Satim Diman and incumbent PAS candidate Noor Hanim Ismail.

She said the real work for her began two weeks ago, when meeting the people and non-government organisations who expressed their support and expectations.

She added she would serve the people regardless of race or party.

“I was in Kota Raja for two terms. I served all races.
