Greater Selayang manifesto getting traction: BN candidate

VOTERS are warming up to his campaign manifesto which addresses long-standing issues and promises to build a Greater Selayang, says BN Selayang candidate Kang Meng Fuat.

Selayang is considered a large municipality with over half a million people and growing, and it also includes the districts of Rawang, Templer and Kuang.

“The issues faced by the Selayang community are obvious for all to see, and yet, these issues have not been addressed to make life better for the Selayang people," said Kang.

“Most working adults commute daily in horrendous traffic in and out of Kuala Lumpur to make a living because there are very few opportunities within Selayang,” he added.

Kang said it was situations like this that inspired two of his more significant manifesto action plans.

First, he wants to connect Selayang to the existing MRT, LRT and KTM rail networks to significantly improve accessibility and convenience. Second, he want to attract new industries into Selayang to create a thriving environment and an abundance of local job opportunities.

His other plans are to make Selayang a safe neighbourhood, protect the environment and promote eco-tourism, and set up of an Urban Transformation Centre offering as many as 16 public services under one roof, including for identity card, driver's license, passport and post office.

According to Kang, most Selayang voters praised his manifesto for accurately and comprehensively addressing their long-standing concerns. At the same time, having put up with the slow progress over the years, they were wary of promises made during campaign periods.

“Many candid voters told me straight in the face that they would give me a chance, having tried and tested the incumbent over two terms.

"But they also warned that they would come after me personally if I do not honour my words,” said Kang, who is considered the underdog against two-term Selayang MP William Leong of PKR.

“As a new face, contesting for the first time, I am not taking anything for granted, be it in drafting a manifesto that I am confident of implementing or reaching out to the locals every single day,” he said.

Kang was previously the political secretary to Datuk Sri Liow Tiong Lai, MCA president over three ministerial postings.

Addressing Selayang voters, Kang said: “Give me the mandate, and I will give you my determination, energy and resourcefulness to not only put Selayang back on track but on the fast track of sustainable progress.

"I will waste no time in proving that I am reliable, responsible and capable.
