10% more Chinese support, says BN Hulu S'gor incumbent

AT LEAST 10% more Chinese in Hulu Selangor will support Barisan Nasional in the upcoming general election, said the incumbent MP of the constituency, Datuk P. Kamalanathan.

He said he believed the Chinese community in the constituency had started to trust Barisan again.

As such, Kamalanathan, who is Deputy Education Minister, said he would stand an even better chance of winning the seat again in this election.

“Previously, I only had 10% of the Chinese voters in the district supporting me, but with the additional 10%, my chances are very good.

"I'm confident that the Chinese community will continue to vote for Barisan Nasional,” he added.

According to the MIC man, Chinese-dominated villages like Kampung Asam Kumbang and Kampung Baru Serendah and Kuala Kubu Baru, which he said did not vote for him in GE13, now had a different perception of Pakatan Harapan.

He claimed the people were unhappy and dissatisfied with the poor state of infrastructure and services provided by the Pakatan-run Hulu Selangor District Council.

Roads here were pothole-ridden and street lights often did not function, he added. On top of that, rubbish was also not collected on time.

By right, Kamalanathan said, with its bigger reserve funds, the council should have done a better job of maintaining the infrastructure in this rural area.

“Barisan is committed to developing Hulu Selangor and providing basic amenities for the people, including by setting up a university and a land transportation hub to encourage more business opportunities," he said, after visiting the Chinese community in Kalumpang and checking on the election machinery there.
