Seri Kembangan MCA man fed up of traffic jams, proposes solution

A RAMP and a wider road are needed to ease traffic congestion along Jalan Besar, according to Seri Kembangan MCA candidate Chang Toong Woh.

The civil engineer said erecting a ramp from Jalan Utama to Jalan Raya 1 would lessen the burden on Jalan Besar, while a wider road at the junction of Jalan Besar to The Mines would help smoothen traffic in the area.

“There is a lot of traffic from the one-way road of Jalan Besar to The Mines, and when this happens, a bottleneck is formed at the junction,” he said.

Chang, who has prepared a conceptual report on the matter, said he would prepare a safety and traffic impact report to present to residents for their opinion.

He said he hoped Seri Kembangan residents would give him a chance to represent them and allow him to put forth his ideas.

Traffic congestion along Jalan Besar is a regular occurence and has often been reported over the years.

Chang said he was fed up of waiting for the state government to take action.

“Though it is a federal road, the state government undertook responsibility and converted Jalan Besar into a one-way road in 2014 with an allocation of RM36mil, but the traffic jams still persist.”

“Now they say they need over RM200mil to ease traffic in the area,” Chang said.

With him at the press conference was Puchong parliamentary Gerakan candidate Datuk David Ang Chin Tat.

Meanwhile, Puchong parliamentary Gerakan candidate Datuk David Ang Chin said people should not be fooled by the state’s move to push the blame on the traffic situation to the Federal Government.

“They are the state government, and we are the opposition here. What have they done for the Seri Kembangan people?”

“As a exco member for new village development, what has Ean Yong done for Seri Kembangan New Village?

"The state government only allocates 0.3%  of the budget to new village developments, and that equals to only RM5mil. The problem in Seri Kembangan has not been resolved over the years as he has promised,” Ang said.

He added that Ean Yong should present his "report card" for the people to evaluate.
