BN Banting candidate pledges building for morning market

KUALA Langat Wanita MCA chief Ng Siok Hwa, the Barisan Nasional candidate for Banting state seat, has pledged to build a two-level building to house the morning market traders and hawkers of the Telok Bunut Morning Market area.

“Our morning market in Telok Bunut has become an important social and commercial space in our communities.

"I feel the traders have been overlooked. Councillors under the Selangor Government have not paid much attention to the area that is a local economic engine,” she said.

Ng added that if she were given the mandate in the 14th general election, she would propose a two-level rectangular building be built to house traders from the morning market and hawkers.

“I see great value in this morning market.

"Businesses have endured and thrived for two decades at Jalan Telok Bunut after it was relocated. Most of the traders are Chinese with some Malays and Indians,” added Ng, who is a local resident.

In addition, Ng, who is regular at the morning market, said she had another alternative idea, which would be to erect a permanent roof structure to protect the traders and locals visiting the market from sun and rain.

This would make the market a more comfortable destination for shopping.

“(But) It would be good to have the traders in a building. The traffic movement would be better regulated, as the place is in a dense and walkable area with plenty of foot traffic in the morning.

"Barisan wants to help the traders make the area better as it is located near housing, public spaces, shops, and restaurants. It is well positioned,” she said.

Ng added that a public toilet at the hawker centre was also much needed to ensure a high level of public hygiene.
