BN Titiwangsa candidate slams PAS for playing up sensitive issues via Zouk

BARISAN Nasional’s candidate for Titiwangsa Datuk Seri Johari Ghani has hit out at his PAS counterpart for playing up sensitive issues in campaigning with his promise to remove entertainment outlet Zouk from Jalan Tun Razak if he wins the seat.

“We are living in the 21st century, and Titiwangsa is not in isolation from the rest of country," Johari said.

He was referring to PAS candidate for Titiwangsa Mohammad Noor Mohammad, who reportedly made the pledge, saying Zouk Club KL was located in a Malay-majority area and could cause social ills among youths.

“He is politicising sensitive issues, and that’s is not right," Johari said.

“Malaysia is a multi-racial country with Malays, Chinese and Indians practising their cultures, and they cannot be forced to follow what other races believe,’’ he said.

“If you believe that there are those (among the Malays) patronising Zouk, then the proper thing to do is to educate them. There is no easy way out, like saying that you will shut down the place.

“When it comes to licensing matters and policies, it is up to the local authorities to handle, and we should not get involved," Johari added.
