DUST pollution from lorries and factories is becoming a menace to residents in Bukit Rahman Putra 7, Sungai Buloh.

Bukit Rahman Putra 7/3 Residents Association chairman Kan Keng Pui, 51, said the lorries using a dirt road behind the row of houses kicked up dust that coats everything in their homes.

He said the residents’ bigger problem was the sleepless nights caused by dozens of lorries belonging to a transportation company plying the dirt road until the wee hours of the morning. He also highlighted that there was no business signage at the lorry depot.

“This transportation business seems to operate 24 hours daily, as the lorries go to and fro on the road right behind our homes.

And there is no proper fence separating our houses from the dirt road.

“We fear that schoolchildren who walk to school nearby could be knocked down by these lorries.

“We have made dozens of complaints to Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) over the five years that this company has been operating here, but no action is taken,” said the frustrated Kan, who joined residents in holding a banner along the dirt road demanding peace for their neighbourhood.

A resident of 20 years, Shirley Lim, 51, said did not check the transportation business’ status and roads despite residents’ complaints.

“We want this road to be closed permanently to stop the dust pollution and the lorry noise disturbing peace in the neighbourhood,” she said.

Another resident Pang Hoon Thiam, 44, who have been living here for the last 14 years, said this was a peaceful neighbourhood until the transport company operations started.
“In fact, there are many factories along this dirt road and the authorities should check,” he added.

Subang MCA chief Datuk Raymond S.H. Low said that he would bring up the matter to MPS and the Gombak Land Office.

“MPS should have taken action on these factories. Firstly, there is no signboard on the blue zinc hoarding surrounding the transportation depot.

“It is located on a dirt road and residents have also complained that there many factories like this cropping up in this area.

“I want to know why MPS has not taken any action despite dozens of complaints from residents,” he said.
