WHAT started out as a hobby for vintage items some seven years ago has now turned into a great passion for Ahmad Zhafaran Mohammed Nasib.
His collections include phonograph records, old radios, toys, model cars, cameras and the Sony cassette device — Walkman and Discman.
A professional photographer with Star Media Group, Ahmad Zhafaran said he started collecting these items to remind him of his childhood days.
“Then, my interest deepened and I started collecting more and more vintage things.
“Besides collecting, I also sell them to collectors who share the same interest via garage sales or online,” he said, adding that customers came from as far as Johor.
Ahmad Zhafaran said his prized possession now is a phonograph record made in 1948.
Some of his collections were displayed at the Artisan Market and Garage Sale at The Star Pitt St in George Town recently.
German exhibitor Christel Gan, 61, said she picked up crocheting skills in her school back home.
“Now, I’m starting to enjoy it again to make soft toys for my grandchildren.
“I can make different types of toy animals, besides scarves, pouches and bags.
“It takes about five hours to crochet a soft toy while to make a scarf or a bag, it would take a few days or weeks depending on the size and colours,” she said.
The former teacher also sold other pre-loved items at her booth.
The Artisan Market and Garage Sale is held at The Star Pitt St on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to 4pm.
