RECIPIENTS of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) in Bagan Dalam were all smiles as they collected their money at the Special Implementation Task Force office in Kampung Jawa, Butterworth.
A total of 122 people received the aid from Bagan MCA division secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong and MIC central working committee member J. Dhinagaran on Friday.
“Unlike the Penang government’s financial aid to the elderly which requires them to register as a voter in Penang, BR1M is a true policy to reduce the financial burden of low-income families,” said Dr Tan.
The Penang MCA organising secretary also denied allegations that the money for BR1M came from the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“GST is the country’s income to aid the country’s development.
“Many countries are restructuring their tax framework via GST as they consider GST to be a more reasonable tax than income tax,” he said.
After the distribution of the aid, the recipients were treated to a sumptuous dinner.
