WOMEN in Malaysia are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with and various organisations are further empowering them.
MBO marketing and sales general manager Jamie Tiong said women must take ownership of their future and initiatives such as women coaching seminars go a long way in reinforcing their ability to participate and demand for equal opportunities.
“Women’s empowerment basically means enabling women to participate equally with men, in all spheres of life that involves education and having opportunities in making decisions at the office, in families and communities,” she said.
Tiong, who attended a coaching seminar for women, said it inspired, motivated and made a difference in her day-to-day decisions.
“Attending the seminar propelled me further as a person and professionally,” she added.
Tiong said MBO was proud to be the official venue sponsor for The Star’s WOW – Women Do Wonders campaign, which is in conjunction with International Women’s Day as which inspires women to reach greater heights.
“I am excited that The Star’s campaign is in its second edition and we at MBO want to be part of this campaign that empowers women,” she said.
MBO has sponsored the exhibition hall and cinema at Starling Mall in Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya, for the Star Women Fiesta, to be held this weekend as part of the campaign.
The fiesta, which will be held from 10am to 8pm tomorrow and Sunday, will see several speakers taking the stage to share their success stories.
Speakers that are scheduled for Saturday’s session from 10am to 1pm are AirAsia Foundation executive director Yap Mun Ching, film director Tunku Mona Riza, Wanderlust + Co founder Jenn Low, SO.LEK founder Dahlia Nadirah Juhari as well as Prestige Malaysia and August Man Malaysia editor-in-chief Rubin Khoo.
On Sunday, from 10am to 1pm, the speakers are comedian Harith Iskandar and his wife Dr Jezamine Lim, actress Kavitha Sidhu and geologist husband Roberto Guiati, entrepreneur Timothy Tiah and blogger Audrey Ooi, radio host and fitness personality Linora Low, Mercedez-Benz Malaysia marketing communications general manager Elaine Hew as well as entrepreneur and radio announcer Chan Fong.
The fiesta will feature an exhibition by vendors selling products related to fashion and beauty, lifestyle and wealth management, food and hobbies as well as a line-up of activities for visitors.
