KUANTAN: Sungai Lembing assemblyman Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah is slated to contest for the Paya Besar parlimentary seat, taking over from the late Datuk Seri Abdul Manan Ismail who passed away recently.
Md Sohaimi said he was entrusted by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to continue the duties of Abdul Manan as division chief and Member of Parliament.
He said he had no problem carrying out Abdul Manan’s work and service to the community as he had been exposed to it.
“For the coming general election, we are ready because we have been on the ground meeting and serving the people.
“Abdul Manan had an excellent track record ever since he became MP and division chief and I follow in his footsteps in serving the community,” Md Sohaimi said.
Md Sohaimi said during his meeting with Najib, he was told to carry on his duties, not only as an assemblyman but the role of MP.
“I will do my best to perform and to complete the unfinished work left by Abdul Manan,” he said, adding that this included giving aid to the poor, disabled and senior citizens.
“Unfortunately, he passed away before he could complete all of his work,” Md Sohaimi said.
Abdul Manan, 69, died after he fell in his house in Taman Melawati here on Feb 12. He had been the Paya Besar MP since 2008.
Md Sohaimi also hoped that locals would be fielded in the constituency’s three other state seats.
However, he said any other candidates would not dampen the working spirit among them.
“We will abide by the top party leaders’ decision,” he said.
