LABIS: Labis Barisan Nasional division wants to help the youth in the district find employment by organising job fairs on a yearly basis.
Labis MP Datuk Chua Tee Yong, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said there were many jobs offered by various companies, especially in the manufacturing sector.
“Johor received the highest amount of investment in the manufacturing sector in the country last year.
“The state government, through the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, has set up Skills Johor, to provide training for youths and match them with companies looking for skilled workers,” he added.
Chua, who is also MCA vice-president, said this after officiating at a Youth Skills programme held at Dewan Serbaguna Labis here recently.
He also said following the huge investments made in Johor, there were between 15,000 and 20,000 jobs available in the state.
“This is a good opportunity for many locals, in particular the youth, to get a job near their families here instead of moving to big cities such as Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
Chua, however, said the main problems for companies were that many of them relied too much on fliers and buntings to attract youths to apply for jobs.
“We will be working closely with Skills Johor by matching companies with the youth in Labis.
“The Youth Skills programme, organised and supported by Labis Barisan, will be a yearly event which we plan to hold every first week of December,” he added.
He also said Skills Johor forms would be made available at his service centre here to make it easier for those who want to apply.
Chua also said he would be getting companies located in Segamat to participate in the programme.
