LOCAL Chinese language radio station 988 is ushering in the Year of the Dog with its very first full-length festive flick A House Of Happiness.

Following a series of roadshows around the country, 988 launched the lunar new year comedy with a gala premiere at Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya in Selangor.

The launch kicked off with a colourful lion dance, which wowed the crowd of movie enthusiasts and 988 fans who had gathered at the venue to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.

Dozens of local celebrities graced the red carpet including singers Jeryl Lee, Pink Tan, Ke Qing, Juztin Lan and Jieying Tha, as well as television hosts Desmond Tey, Jan Chin and Tan Ley Teng.

Even former 988 deejays KK and Luke were on hand to provide some laughs along with emcees DJ May and DJ Mike.

Among the VIP guests in attendance were Star Media Group Bhd’s chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow and group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.

A House Of Happiness is directed by JY Teng, written by scriptwriter-turned-director Ryon Lee (Show Me Your Love, My Papa Rich, The Dream Boyz) and produced by Aron Koh and 988’s Chan Fong.

Principal photography commenced a year ago at the former coal mining town of Batu Arang, a quaint township in the heart of Selangor that is steeped in nostalgia.

The feel-good comedy stars veteran Hong Kong actor Richard Ng and Ipoh-born Hong Kong-based actress Mimi Chu as a cute old couple.

Ng portrays Shui, an old ice-cream seller who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Chu plays his long-suffering wife.

Supporting acts include Malaysian actors Steve Yap, Miau Lim and Thian Siew Kim, who play well-meaning but excessively nosy neighbours.

Meanwhile, Louisa Chong plays a gold-digger who is after Shui’s money.

Most notably, the movie features 988 deejays Chan Fong, Cheryl Lee, Sam Mak, Hau Min, Anson Kow, Jason Poon, Cassey Soo, Cynthia Tan, Sean Lee, Piao Min, and Danny One.

A House Of Happiness is jointly presented by Be World Class Management, HK Media and 988, produced by Lomo Pictures Sdn Bhd and sponsored by Gamuda Land.
