WATSONS Elite members were among the first to catch the latest local flick Think Big Big.

As part of a member reward and a Chinese New Year treat, Watsons held an exclusive screening at GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, where the film’s director Chiu Keng Guan and casts were also present for a meet-and-greet session.

This latest movie by Chiu, whose previous hits include The Journey and Olabola, is about a confident plus-sized girl by the name of Moon who dreams of becoming an astronaut.

Moon, who grew up in a small town with a loving family, was content with her job before financial debts forced her into a competition that takes her on a social media fitness journey.

As she becomes an Internet sensation, Moon’s life is turned upside down, and audiences gets to look into her journey of regaining true happiness with the people she loves.

Watsons Malaysia general manager and country head Caryn Loh said the retailer was happy to tie up with the director as the movie’s key takeaway was in line with Watsons’ beliefs.

“The main message of the movie resonates with Watsons Malaysia’s advocacy of embracing our inner beauty and remembering our self-worth.

“In a society that promotes self-validation through social media, it is especially important to remind people, especially young impressionable females, that they should love and accept themselves for who they are and that they are beautiful in their own special way,” she said.

Loh added that the brand was excited to reward its customers with a money-can’t-buy experience ahead of Chinese New Year.

“We did not leave out our Elite members outside the Klang Valley, as the special preview was also held concurrently for members residing in Kuching, Penang, Johor Baru and Ipoh,” she said.

The event was extended to over 800 Elite members, who got to watch the movie before the official release on Feb 15.

At the event, guests enjoyed a dance performance by local girl group Muse Girls, an LED Lion Dance act as well as dinner.

There was also a talk session with the director and cast of the movie, a lo sang ceremony, and appearances by the Whoopee mascot and the God of Prosperity.

Following last year’s #HappyBeautifulYear Chinese New Year campaign, Watsons Malaysia is also offering a festive sale this year, which features discounts up to 50% storewide until Feb 28.
