MIRI: The Chinese New Year mood is in full swing in Miri city as people come from as far as Brunei to take advantage of the sale on goodies, decorations and clothes.

The festive vibe is evident in shopping centres across the city as elaborate and eye-catching decorations have been put up.

These adornments also make great backdrops for visitors to take photos with their loved ones.

One such setting is Boulevard Shopping Complex Pujut’s life-size trading ship with oriental designs on top of the mall’s indoor fountain.

Bintang Megamall has transformed its ground floor area at the new wing into a portion of an ancient Chinese palace with a courtyard.

Visitors can wander around the courtyard and into the one-room palace where other decorations are displayed.

The event was further hyped up with an energetic Zumba performance.

For Miri folk of all backgrounds, the height of the festivities will be the annual Chinese New Year bazaar which will be held in High Street from Feb 9 to 15.
