Get to root of dumping

High-rise dumping: The culture of throwing rubbish from upper floors is ingrained in the community as the young pick up the bad habit from their parents.

ARPIAH Abdul Ghani covered her face to hide the tears that was threatening to spill when asked about the tragedy of S. Sathiswaran, 15, who died after being hit by a chair hurled from the upper floors of PPR Seri Pantai in Pantai Dalam last week.

The 75-year-old, who lives Putra Ria Apartments in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, said the incident brought back memories from 20 years ago when 27-year-old Mohamed Khairuddin Osman was killed after being struck on the head by a brick believed to have been flung down from the upper floors of the apartment block.
