TWO chicken sellers were fined during an enforcement raid conducted by the Shah Alam City Council in Kampung Melayu Subang and Pekan Subang.
In the first case, the team, led by MBSA councillor Foong Saik Hoong, nabbed a trader selling chicken without licence in Pekan Subang.
Foong said the female trader was illegally selling live chicken at a shop that only had a licence to sell vegetables issued by the council.
During the raid, Foong said the council’s enforcement team seized 30 chickens that were alive from the premises and the trader was fined RM600 for selling chicken without a licence.
Besides that, he said the trader had also slaughtered the chicken on the premises.
“MBSA does not allow the sale of live chicken at such premises, which means that the slaughter is also out of the question.
“Furthermore, the trader was also found to be channelling chicken blood and waste into the drain,” he said.
In the second raid in Kampung Melayu Subang, Foong said a trader was also fined for selling live chicken without a licence.
However, he said the premises had no more chickens left when the enforcement team arrived at 9.30am on Saturday.
“The outlet, which begins operations at 6am, managed to sell out its chickens before the team arrived.
“Two canopies that were illegally put up to provide shade for the business were seized and a fine of RM600 was issued to the bearer of the business licence, who is a local,” he said.
Foong added that MBSA would be conducting a joint operation with the Immigration Department in both areas in the near future to check the presence of foreigners who were illegally carrying out business there.
He said the council had received numerous complaints that foreigners had taken over many of the businesses from the locals.
“Foreigners are not allowed to do business and it is understood that they are using the locals to obtain the licences and in return, pay a monthly rental to the local,” he said.
