SIBU: A newly-set up organisation is calling on pet owners to register their animals to take advantage of a subsidised spaying and neutering programme.

Dog and Cat Spaying and Neutering Committee member Siew Tung said they can register their pets for the programme from Jan 15 to 21.

“We want to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the number of strays,” said Wong, adding owners must register their animals to be eligible for the programme.

Apart from January, they can register their pets on the first seven days of March, May, July, September and November.

“We will continue accepting registration on these days and months until 2022,” he said.

Wong added only owners of local breeds need to register.

The animals will be spayed and neutered at Central Veterinary Clinic here.

“Owners of animals can send them to be spayed the same month of registration on a first-come, first-served basis,” he said.

The committee would only subsidise the spaying and neutering of the first 10 animals registered each month.

The subsidised rate for a female cat is RM80, male cat (RM60), female dog (RM100) and male dog (RM80).
