MIRI: Airlines’ ground staff and Miri Airport staff have been told to carry out daily checks to make sure all ground facilities inside the airport are in working condition.
Sarawak Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin yesterday said should any facilities be found to be in faulty condition, immediate repairs must be done.
Commenting on the long queues at the airport because of a breakdown of one of the self check-in kiosks, he said the airlines and airport management must be alert to these problems.
“The repairs must be done immediately. Passengers should not face delays because of these technical problems.
“Airport facilities that are used by the masses must be in top working condition at all times,” he said.
The long queues inconvenienced many passengers during the Christmas and New Year rush.
In addition, there were students who needed to fly off to other places for the new school year session.
Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, said the airline staff and airport management must help passengers who are caught in this inconvenient situation because of technical difficulties.
He said since this is Visit Miri Year 2018, everyone must put in the extra effort to provide better quality service to locals and foreign visitors alike.
Miri mayor Adam Yii said he was informed of the technical breakdown at the check-in kiosks.
He said swift repairs must be carried out when an issue arose.
