SEMPORNA: Sabah has the highest number of ‘Sahabat’ or borrowers in the microcredit programme, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) in the country with 64,000 persons.
Sabah AIM East Coast Zone chief operations officer Jamilah Bisri said the number in other states was less than 60,000.
She said there were 2,500 borrowers in Semporna alone; the figure was expected to rise next year to 3,100.
In this regard, RM9.5mil had been disbursed to the borrowers, the figure would rise to RM16mil when the number reaches 3,100, she told reporters after the opening of the Semporna Entrepreneurs Club at Dewan Marin here. – Bernama
