MIRI: All councillors and members of the committees they oversee in the Miri City Council must table their performance report for 2017 to tell the public what they have accomplished for the rakyat throughout the year.

Their “report cards” will be put on the table for public scrutiny, said Miri mayor Adam Yii yesterday at the last full-board meeting for 2017.

He reminded the city’s 30 councillors and their committees to prepare their performance report soonest possible.

“All of them must carry out a thorough review of 2017. This review must include details of what they have done for the city throughout the year.

“Start preparing your reports now and table them for assessment at the January 2018 full council meeting,” he said.

Yii also urges all the committees to be ready for Visit Miri Year 2018, which will begin with grand events to be held from Dec 29 to the early hours of Jan 1.

“We will organise a series of exciting public programmes in Miri city on Dec 29, 30 and Dec 31 to finish 2017 on a high note.

“At midnight on Dec 31, we will welcome 2018 with a public concert and grand fireworks,” he said.

Yii said that on the evening of Dec 31, the council will unveil its tourism logo and mascot.

He called on the people of Miri, especially the business sector, to help drive tourism.

The business fraternity should use the Miri tourism logo and mascot to promote their trades, he said.

“They can also include the logo and mascot in their advertisements and marketing drives to give Miri wider publicity,” he added.

Miri is the oil capital of Sarawak but since the downturn of the global oil industry, tourism is being pushed to the forefront to boost local economy.
