SUBANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) is the first council in Selangor to receive recognition from Sirim Berhad for the 37001: 2016 Anti Bribery Management System.
This is a recognition of corruption prevention systems to help organisations implement the systems more effectively as well as prevent, detect and deal with corruption.
The council was invited to participate in the pilot scheme programme and they received the award at the Sirim Industry 2017 ceremony in Subang Jaya by Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah.
In line with the council’s zero tolerance for corruption, MPSJ has taken steps to develop and implement anti-corruption management procedures and policies.
Among them are regular seminars and meetings on MPSJ’s ethical code with council staff at all levels, integrity workshops by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, declaration of assets and introduction of the MPSJ Anti-Bribery policy.
MPSJ acting president Mohd Zulkarnain Che Ali said the Sirim certification was awarded biennially.
“We are one of the three local councils selected by Sirim. The other two are Seberang Prai Municipal Council and Pengerang Municipal Council.
“To maintain this certification, we ensure that our procedures in getting tenders, for example, are done according to standard procedure and free from corruption.
“We also have an internal audit unit and integrity unit that conducts cross-checks between all MPSJ departments regularly,” he said.
