Best showcase to shop for courses

FROM learning outside the classroom to studying in Japan and special focus on job-oriented training instead of pure academics, a treasure trove of higher learning and career pathways await visitors to the Star Education Fair at Convention 33 in Prangin Mall, Penang, this weekend.

Open from 11am to 7pm, it brings together 36 local and international institutions and education specialists to offer visitors comprehensive choices under one roof.

Their staff members will be on hand to offer students and parents guidance on the many study options and the employment opportunities.

Programmes available range from foundation to diploma, degree and post-graduate levels. There is bound to be something to match one’s ambitions.

Sentral College Penang marketing manager Johnny Goh said they would be offering attractive rebates to those who sign up during the two-day event.

Their courses cover business and management, accounting and finance, computing and IT, tourism and hospitality management, as well as early childhood education.

“We are the only college in the northern region to hold the Platinum Learning Partner status from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, which we got since 2013.

“We also believe in learning outside the classroom, and some programmes include study trips locally and abroad to expose students to practices in different places and complement what they learn in theory.

“Students do not have to pay additional fees for these, and only need to cover their own meals and expenses,” Goh added.

Also participating in the fair is Inter Excel Tourism Academy, which specialises in tourism, hospitality and technical aviation courses that emphasise on job-oriented practical training and soft skills development.

It is a tourism school registered with the Ministry of Tourism and recognised as a Class A training provider by the Human Resources Development Fund.

Its public relations cum marketing manager Lim Yok Lin said students would benefit from the academy’s ties with international airlines and the training provided by expe-rienced industry professionals.

“Students get to develop their soft skills and build up confidence and character. We secure them job interviews with airlines, which lead to higher chances of success.

“The academy boasts of having one of the best placement track records, with thousands achieving their dreams. Many airlines rate our graduates as excellent,” Lim said.

Disted College will have a wide range of offerings, with the most popular ones being pre-university programmes such as the Cambridge A-Levels and the South Australian Certificate of Education.

Also well-received over the years are their diploma courses in business studies and accounting, as well as the Bachelor of Psychology with honours, according to senior programme advisor Kenneth Peh.

“We are also introducing a Japan Transfer Programme for our computer science diploma students, a first of its kind in Malaysia.

“They will do a six-month bridging programme and, subject to passing the Japanese university entrance exam, they can then articulate it into a Bachelor’s degree at the Toyohashi University of Technology,” Peh said.

He added that the college would also be offering scholarships as well as early bird and annual rebates to students at the fair.

Convention 33 is situated at the sub-basement level of Atrium B in Prangin Mall at the heart of George Town. It has ample parking facilities and is easily accessible via public transport.
