SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) issued eight licences to food truck operators here.

SMC market and petty traders chairman Wong Hie Ping said each operator was also given a designated place for their food truck including at Chuang’s Corridor, Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Rejang Park, Permai Garden, Jalan Keranji and Kutien Garden.

“They are not allowed to conduct business in other places. If they want to be at special events elsewhere, they must get the council’s approval,” she said at the council meeting here.

Replying a question by town councillor Abang Iskandar Abang Latip, Wong said it was compulsory for applicants to attend an interview by the council.

“If successful, they must submit their food menu to the council.

Abang Iskandar said Kutien Garden was not an ideal place as there were not many people there at night and suggested that the food trucks be located in the town square.

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King had in June announced that the feasible sites for food trucks were Jalan Khoo Peng Loong and the town square.
