Due credit must be given to the right person

BATU Gajah MCA has called on Tronoh Assemblyman Yong Choo Kiong to provide documents to show that he is the one who initiated development projects in the constituency.

Batu Gajah MCA chairman Wong Kooi Fong said each time a project is completed, the DAP representative (Choo Kiong) would call the media, and take credit for it, when in actual fact it was an effort by the MCA’s team members who did the groundwork.

Wong said they have all the necessary documents to prove the dealings with the relevant government agencies.

“From the proposal level, right up to when the work is completed, we have all the documentation.

“So unless Choo Kiong can provide the documents, I suggest he should stop his tactic of claiming credit for efforts taken by others.

“If he continues to make such statements to gain popularity among the people for work that others are actually doing, then I might consider taking legal action against him,” he told a press conference at the state MCA headquarters here last Thursday.

It was recently reported in the Chinese media that Choo Kiong claimed seven lamp posts in Kampung Baru Bemban were recently fixed due to complaints he made to the Batu Gajah District Council.

But during the press conference, Kampung Baru Bemban head Yong Kah Foh, who was present, said, firstly the lighting project was under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, and not under the purview of the council.

Kah Foh said, as village head he had applied to the ministry for the street lights on June 10 this year, and that approval was given to install 30-lamp posts, and one-LED pole.

“Works were completed by the end of October, and as the village head, I acknowledged the completion of the works on paper as well. The seven poles Choo Kiong is talking about are part of the 30 which I had requested a long time ago,” he said, showing reporters present all the documentation between him and the ministry.

Kah Foh said, besides that, the village heads of Kampung Baru Nalla, Kampung Baru Bali and Kampung Baru Papan had also made similar requests to the ministry, and street lights were also erected in their areas.

In total, he said 84 street lights had been put up in the four villages.

Wong said this is not the first time Choo Kiong had made such claims in the press, taking credit for work he did not do.

“Prior to this, he had also said that due to his efforts the roads in Kampung Baru Bemban were re-tarred, when in actual fact the working paper was forward by the village head, and approval given by the government based on that.

“I want the people to know the efforts taken by MCA to provide the best services from them in the constituency. Some of us are working for the people without getting any salaries.

“As a elected assemblyman I think Choo Kiong should work more, and not just take credit for the efforts of others to get a project in place,” he added.
