TORRENTIAL rain and strong winds did not dampen the spirits of pressmen at the UEM Media Nite at Flamingo Hotel By The Beach Penang.
Treated to a sumptuous seafood barbeque buffet dinner at the Flamingo Cafe, they remained comfortable and dry from the downpour outside.
The gathering during the Nov 4 floods was themed Chillin' By The Beach and was supposed to have taken place outdoors.
However, the event was moved indoors due to the storm which flooded many areas in the state.
With most journalists and photographers having to heed the call of duty to cover the floods, the turnout was smaller than usual.
But those who attended enjoyed the occasion and mingled with the UEM senior personnel and staff who made the trip from Kuala Lumpur.
Many of the pressmen walked away with lucky draw prizes that included home appliances and electronic gadgets.
Each was also lavished with door gifts.
The Media Nite, held for the third year running, was jointly organised by UEM Group Bhd, UEM Edgenta Bhd and PLUS Malaysia Bhd.
UEM Group corporate communications head Aishah Nor said it was their way of thanking local media outlets for their support and news coverage.
“Most of the time when we meet, it is during formal occasions for work.
“This gives us a chance to catch up with each other over a relaxing meal,” she added.
Also present was PLUS Malaysia corporate communications head Mohd Nizam Ismail.
