A HEALTH camp held at SK Kuala Perai in Bagan Dalam, Butterworth, drew good response from those living in the vicinity.

The half-day event featured various activities including free medical and dental exams while government agencies set up exhibitions.

A colouring contest and a Kolam making contest were also held.

The event on Sunday was jointly organised by the Penang Health Department and north Seberang Prai district health office to mark World Mental Health Day.

MIC central working committee member J. Dhinagaran, who opened the camp, said World Mental Health Day had been celebrated on Oct 10 since 1992 .

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Mental Health in the Workplace’.

He said good mental health enabled individuals to realise their potential, overcome stress in their daily life and be more productive at work.

“In Malaysia, there is an increasing number of people experiencing stress in the workplace,” said Dhinagaran.

“The National Health and Morbidity Survey revealed that mental health problems among adults increased from 10% in 1996 to 29% in 2015.”

Also present at the health event were north Seberang Prai district health officer Dr Rafidah Md Noor and Health Ministry mental health section’s public health physician Dr Nurashikin Ibrahim.
