TEMPLE of Fine Arts (TFA) is organising a musical extravaganza, Sanmaarga – Celebrating Light & Life – to raise funds for the proposed expansion of Klinik Derma SivaSanta in Brickfields.

TFA vice-president Dr M. Paranjothy said the musical was one of the charitable endeavours undertaken by the non-profit organisation to raise funds for the construction of a new block for the clinic.

He said the musical was organised in collaboration with several eminent musicians including Dr TV Gopalakrishnan, a Carnatic and Hindustani classical music legend and the innovator of Indian jazz, to promote the appreciation of music.

He will be accompanied by Devie Neithyar, Carola Grey and Biju Paulose and several well-known Malaysian artistes.

The musical will be held at 6pm on Oct 21 and 22 at TFA’s Shantanand Auditorium in Brickfields.

Dr Paranjothy said SivaSanta Medical Services was the brainchild of Swami Shantanand Saraswati and has been operating as Klinik Derma SivaSanta for the past 33 years.

It took on the name of Swami Shantanand and his master, Swami Sivananda, who was a doctor serving in rubber estates in Malaya between 1913 and 1922 before his monastic calling,

Currently, the clinic is operated in Kuala Lumpur and Penang and regularly conducts medical camps to rural parts of peninsular Malaysia using the SivaSanta Medical Mobile van.

It is their aim to eventually be able to provide quality, free in-patient medical services to the public.

The clinic is run solely on donations by a host of volunteer doctors and assistants.

Dr Paranjothy said the proposed expansion would ensure a patient would not be denied medical attention for lack of funds.

“We want to establish a first-class modern, fully-equipped facility, capable of providing healthcare to the community and establish a centre of excellence for alternative medical therapies including ayurveda, homeopathy, siddha and acupuncture,” he said.
