SIBU: It is easier now for of the public to contact their community leaders, thanks to the publication of a directory of Sibu Division Chinese community leaders.

The 122-page directory contains the photos, contact numbers and addresses of all the Chinese community leaders in charge of their respective zones.

Besides the Temenggong and Pamanca, Sibu Division has 17 Chinese penghulu and 102 kapitan.

That included 17 kapitan in Sibu District, 25 in Kanowit District and two in Selangau District.

Speaking to reporters after launching the directory yesterday, Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee said there were limited copies, but members of the public could obtain the e-version at Sibu Resident Office’s website at

“We have printed only 2,000 copies and distributed them to the 7th Chinese Clan Association, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and United Chinese Association.

“If they cannot get them from these associations or from our website,” he said.

Hii expressed hope that the directory would provide access for the public to their respective community leaders.

He added that the state had assigned 75 Chinese kapitan in Sibu District to serve the 17 different penghulu.

“We have completed the delineation of zones for all the community leaders to cover the whole of Sibu district,” he added.

He urged community leaders to regularly attend official functions and seminars organised by the Resident and District offices as well as the media.
