Hawkers lax about fire prevention


Food stalls are common in Pudu and many parts of the Klang Valley but fire safety awareness among traders worry the Fire and Rescue Department, and most of the stalls do not have fire extinguishing tools at hand.

FIRE safety appears to be a distant concern for the Pudu Wai Sek Kai (Glutton’s Street) community despite being surrounded by high-density and decades-old buildings and highly congested roads.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said the lackadaisical attitude among petty traders nearby Jalan Pudu when it came to fire safety awareness, was worrying.
