TUNKU Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) has received the Premier Digital Tech University award.
It was one of eight local universities to receive the prestigious recognition from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Higher Education Ministry.
The award further cements TARUC’s position as one of the leading institutions of higher education in the field of information and communication technology.
TARUC president Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok said since the introduction of TARUC’s ICT programmes in the early 1980s, it had produced many top talents in digital technology who were leaders in their respective fields.
“The programme is one of the most comprehensive in the country in terms of the curriculum and areas of specialisation, which are highly industry-relevant,” he said.
Dr Tan added that TARUC also had strong industry linkage and highly-focused academic teaching by its Computing and Information Technology Faculty.
“Students from the faculty have won various external ICT competitions for many years, demonstrating that TARUC’s holistic education produces graduates who are not only well-equipped with all the relevant knowledge and skills, but are also excellent problem solvers,” he added.
Dr Tan received the award from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh at the awards ceremony that was also attended by MDEC chief executive Datuk Yasmin Mahmood.
The awards will also allow MDEC and the institutions recognised to focus specific resources to enhance the quality of Premier Digital Tech graduates.
