THE largest science-themed festival in the country, the Petrosains Science Festival, at Petrosains the Discovery Centre and Esplanade, KLCC Park, aims to fill your weekend with ideas on living a sustainable lifestyle.

Back for the fourth year with the theme "Sustainable Living", the festival is a community celebration of discovery and learning in science and hopes to inspire love and interest in science.

It also hopes to produce the future generation of scientically literate and critical thinkers through a learning platform that is fun, exciting and highly accessible to all Malaysians.

Whether it is recycling, conserving energy, stopping food wastage or disposing trash responsibly, the science festival has something for everyone, child or adult.

The first day of the festival today (Sept 15) saw a great number of people taking part in activities and talks, as well as visiting fun and educational booths.

Those who visit and take part in workshops would be able to take home their creations. Guests to Petrosains, the Discovery Centre would only have to pay RM5 to enjoy the activities.

Muhd Khairul Zaman and his wife Zaromah Mat Ali, brought their three children to the festival and took part in the Tote Bag Painting workshop, said they decided to bring the children because it was an opportunity to be expose to something new.

Jimmy Leong and his nine-year-old daughter Priscylla (pic below) had visited the festival in the past and decided to return this year to see what's new. While walking through and visiting the 21 booths at Esplanade, KLCC Park, they managed to catch a musical performance by the UiTM singers, which Leong said he enjoyed.

Among the workshops to look out for during the weekend (Sept 16-17) are perfume making, ceramic painting, sewing and up cycling old materials.

At the Esplanade, KLCC Park, shoppers can cycle to generate electricity at the National Geographic booth, immerse in virtual reality and  fly between mountains at the Petrosains booth, build their own terrarium or visit a tiny sustainable home.
