HAVING served Star Media Group Bhd for 25 years, Kumara Velu M. Kalimuthu has a sense of belonging to the company.
The technical services clerical assistant said he had learnt a lot of skills and made friends with his colleagues ever since joining the company in 1992.
“I have seen how the company has overcome many challenges, thanks to the support of employees,” he said during The Star’s 46th anniversary celebration at Star Media Hub in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.
Kumara was one of 45 recipients awarded the 25-year long service award this year. He received a gold coin and certificate.
A total of 38 recipients of the 15-year long service award also received watches and certificates.
Many employees had attended a ceremony to mark the occasion earlier that day at Menara Star, Petaling Jaya.
Senior guard Aizam Wahd celebrated the occasion with his uncle, Zulkifli Mohd Zain, as both were awarded the 15-year long service award.
“I feel my hard work has been appreciated and contributions acknowledged,” he said.
Senior technician Yaw Kok Leong was honoured to be acknowledged too.
“It feels like I just joined the company. The people here are friendly and I will continue to do my best for Star Media Group,” he said.
Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow thanked the staff for their contributions and sacrifices in his speech.
“Many of the employees here are from our printing plant who have an important role to play in ensuring the newspaper is printed on time and delivered promptly.
“The printed copy remains important as many people still prefer to read newspaper at home.
“It is like a ‘mothership’ that generates revenue for the company so that we can be more competitive in this digital era.
“I hope that all of us can continue to deliver top quality products to our customers,” he said.
Also present were Star Media Group managing director/chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Star Media Radio Group chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Rouse, chief operating officer (digital) Roy Tan, The Star editor-in-chief Datuk Leanne Goh and Star Media Group technical services senior general manager Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Ali.
The anniversary celebration ended with a cake-cutting ceremony before all present enjoyed a sumptuous buffet dinner.
