SIBU: The bodies of the two boys who were feared drowned during a fishing outing in a stream in Permai Jaya Housing Estate on Thursday have been found by the Fire and Rescue Department search and rescue team.

Bomba Zone 4 assistant chief, Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said the body of Pau Chiong Huat,18, was found about 15m from the scene at 10.35am on Friday.

The body of James Tiong Kiong Hoe, 12, was found at 11.45am, not far from the place where they were reported missing.

The two boys were with three others fishing in the 30m wide and 5m deep river at about 6.15pm on Thursday when James and his twin brother, Raymond, went to play in the water.

However, due to the strong current, James was swept to the middle of the river.

Raymond said he saw Chiong Huat jumping into the water to pull James up.

“The two of them were almost near the riverbank before they disappeared,” he said.

The Fire and Rescue department received a distress call at 7.15pm and a search and rescue mission was immediately carried out to look for the two boys.

The team included 44 firemen, five policemen, four marine police and three personnel from the Civil Defence Department.
