Ford today announced that strong sales across the entire lineup in Malaysia helped drive 2014 retail sales up 31% to an all-time full-year record of 13,938 units.
Ford finished the year on a high note with December sales that jumped 52% year-on-year to a monthly record of 1,432 units, capping off its best-ever quarter with sales increasing 22% to 3,721 units.
“As our momentum continues to grow, we have enhanced our appeal to more customers who are new to Ford across the country, enabling back-to-back record sales years,” said Ford Motor Company managing director (Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets) David Westerman.
“With each global Ford vehicle that we introduce, we are able to serve customers in exciting and meaningful ways,” added Westerman.
The Ranger pickup truck finished 2014 as the second best-selling pickup truck in Malaysia with full-year sales soaring 49% year-over-year to 8,577 units.
This included its best-ever monthly performance in December with sales jumping 69% year-over-year to 996 units.
“With an appeal that stretches from the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur to the mountains of Kota Kinabalu, the Ranger has redefined the pickup market in Malaysia with its appeal as both a hardworking, rugged truck and a family-friendly passenger vehicle. Comfortable yet powerful, refined yet capable, our customers love its versatility.”
The sporty Fiesta also delivered a strong full-year performance in 2014 with sales rising 24% year-over-year to 3,119 units.
A healthy demand for Fiesta was driven by its internationally award-winning EcoBoost engine variant, which delivers a class-leading combination of performance, fuel efficiency and emissions levels.
Ford expanded the Fiesta lineup with the addition of the high-performance Fiesta ST, a compact performance car that boasts both responsiveness and raw power.
The EcoSport compact urban SUV, launched in the second half of 2014, also contributed to the sale of 353 units, and is helping to define a whole new vehicle segment in Malaysia.
The EcoSport combines the practicality of a small car with the agility of a SUV.
The Kuga SUV delivered a total sale of 882 units in 2014 while sales of the technology-packed Focus were 939 units.
The company boosted its presence in the commercial vehicle segment by kick-starting the local assembly of the Transit van last year, as well as the official launch of a network of nine Commercial Vehicle (CV) Centres that cater to the unique sales and after-sales needs of commercial customers.
To support a fast-growing customer base, Ford and its partner Sime Darby Auto Connexion will continue enhancing the Ford customer and ownership experience this year.
This includes Sime Darby Auto Connexion’s investments of RM140mil over the next two years, including the addition of three new Ford dealerships to complement the current network of 49 dealerships.
The company’s current dealerships will continue to be upgraded to Ford’s global 3S standards — incorporating sales, service and spare parts under one roof.
“Our ongoing investments in new facilities will enable us to provide Ford customers with an unparalleled sales and after-sales experience right across the country,” said Sime Darby Auto Connexion managing director Lee Eu San.
More Quick Lane outlets will also open this year to provide customers with quick, convenient and high-quality service, adding to the nine outlets introduced last year.
“We are committed to going further this year — more global Ford vehicles, further enhancing our customer and ownership experience, and making the Ford brand even more accessible to our customers across the country,” said Westerman.
