Where the river turns red at low tide

Sungai Merah where the colour of the water signals whether it is low or high tide.

Sungai Merah is more than just a river in Sibu. It is a bazaar named after the river which changes colour, depending on whether it is low tide or King Tide.

Locals can tell it is King Tide when the water’s colour turns light brown like teh tarik. When the tide is low, the water is in its original dark red colour.
