Zahara Nordin, who scored 6As in the recent UPSR exam, is the first recipient of the “Tomorrow’s Leader’s Summit Award”.

Hailing from SK Bukit Damansara in Kuala Lumpur, she received a scholarship to attend the “Mastering Youth Leadership Programme” in Oxford University, United Kingdom, which included flights and accommodation.

The programme, organised by training and consultancy company Bdec Resources Sdn Bhd, who are partners of United Kingdom’s Oxentia Ltd Oxford University Innovation, will see 40 students from Malaysia attending the interactive programme from Dec 5 to 11 .

The award was jointly presented by National Defence University of Malaysia Faculty of Defence Studies and Management Administration and Students Affair deputy dean Assoc Prof Dr Jessica Ong Hai Liaw and Bdec Resources international programme director Sonia Ayesha Rashidi.

“We are glad that Tomorrow’s Leader’s Summit has chosen to work with Bdec Resources for this award.

“We want to promote the idea that corporations and individuals can invest in education as a social responsibility for both gifted students and for students who would otherwise not be able to participate.

“The programme is designed to have a lasting positive impact on students, our objective is to see these students become leaders,” said Sonia.

In addition to proven academic excellence, Zahara also represented her school in both netball and scrabble. She was also an accomplished scout and a finalist in the national spelling bee in 2015.

During the weekends, Zahara volunteers to feed the less fortunate and socially marginalised people in Kuala Lumpur.

“Programmes like this are important for the youth.

“Leadership has always been an important ingredient in building the nation that we know and love,” said Dr Ong, who is also a member of the Tomorrow’s Leader’s Summit advisory group.

Tomorrow’s Leader’s Summit was established to identify young leaders and emmpower them for the future.

The award was designed to engage directly with these young leaders while empowering them with the knowledge and experience to face the challenges of an ever-changing world.
