Journey (Android)

Some of the features in this app include a secret diary with lock including password and fingerprint, markdown shortcuts (only with in-app purchase), word and character count, photo / video / sticker entries of up to four photos and one video per entry, keyboard shortcuts as well as Night Mode (only with in-app purchase), to name a few.

You can also organise your entries via search by keyword, creating tags and browse entries by list, timeline, calendar, photo or atlas.

Diaro (Android)

This app is a step above the rest because of some features which include a multilingual user interface in over 30 languages, security code, organised diary / journal entries using folders and tags, swiping between entries and attaching unlimited number of photos.

As one user put it, while she changed phones twice and had long periods of inactivity with the app, she was able to return and jump back in without any delays and go back through past thoughts and memories with this app.

Moment Diary (iOS)

This is a private diary, which makes notes with time-stamps.

There is also a backup and restore function available but WiFi connection is required. Many users love this app as journal entries are limitless and the user interface is also seamless.
