THE vast mangrove swamp in Bagan Sungai Janggut, Kuala Selangor, seemed to be a magnet for animals and birds.

As I treaded carefully on a rickety platform that extends into the river, I saw different kinds of mudskippers out and about while tiny crabs were crawling in and out of holes that they had made along the shore.
