BINTULU: If it does its job well, you should never know it. Some 1,500 reef balls, each weighing a tonne, have been sunk 1km to 2km to the ocean floor off the Similajau coast.

The sharp textured surfaces’ primary task is to rip apart trawling nets. For almost 30km, these concrete balls zigzag the seabed.
