THIS week, we feature three free apps to help you monitor the inner workings of your smartphone, listen to books on the go and book travel accommodations while you are on the road.
Castro shows you general information about your device (for example, information about CPU and battery status and temperature) while Audible lets you listen to good stories anywhere and anytime. Airbnb is a great app to find the most unique places to stay all over the world.
Castro (iOS, Android)
This is a useful app when there is something not right about your smartphone and you need to check on it.
Other functions include information about your mobile network and WiFi, general information about the device and the app also monitors the RAM and internal memory.
It might sound like the most mundane app but it is only less than 10MB so it does not take up much room.
Audible (iOS, Android)
I am not an audio book fan. However, I find this very useful when travelling or even when you are going for a walk (especially when you have your hands busy or too lazy to read.
In terms of design, function and ease of use, it does the job. Adding and removing books is also easy.
Some of the features include transferring books to your device over WiFi; audio book chapter navigation, bookmarking, sleep mode, variable narration speed, button-free mode and multitasking for background downloading and listening.
Airbnb (iOS, Android)
Everyone should have this app installed in their smartphones/tablets. If you love travelling, the Airbnb app helps you find affordable accommodations all over the world.
My recent trip overseas had me panicking as I could not find any affordable hotels in Sydney, Australia. With Airbnb, I found a great place in a sought-after location, which fell within my budget.
