Buildings that stand the test of time

The unique design of Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim makes it appear similar to a European mansion.

THE old buildings in Bandar Maharani, Muar, might not be as famous as those found in the former Straits Settlements of Malacca, Penang and Singapore. But their structures and architectural elements reflect the colourful past of Johor’s royal town or Bandar DiRaja.

Muar town is known as Bandar Maharani (Empress Town), a name given by the late Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Daeng Ibrahim in 1884. In November 2012, the present Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim declared Bandar Maharani a royal town.
